So we decided to celebrate International Mushroom Day by launching our Blow Your Mind collection.<\/span><\/p><h3><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">What even are mushrooms?<\/span><\/h3><p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mushroom\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>According to Wikipedia<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">: \u201cA mushroom or toadstool is the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus, typically produced above ground, on soil, or on its food source.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.woodlandtrust.org.uk\/blog\/2023\/01\/7-funny-fungi-names\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>Brilliant names abound<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">: Hotlips Disco, Silky Piggyback, Hairy Curtain Crust, Wolf\u2019s Milk Slime Mould\u2026<\/span><\/p><p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.incrediblemushrooms.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>Incredible Mushrooms<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"> suggests that:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">\u201cFungi have been around for at least a billion years. They flourished on the land for millions of years before true plants made an appearance... let alone animals.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">\u201cThere are somewhere between 2.3 and 3.8 million species of fungi, of which a little over 10,000 are mushrooms.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul><p><br \/><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">For an incredible journey through the Fungus Kingdom, look no further than the film <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fantasticfungi.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>Fantastic Fungi<\/u><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>, and accompanying website<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">.<\/span><\/p><h3><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">Shrooms \u2013 what are they good for?<\/span><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">Many mushrooms are edible and delicious. And some\u2014<\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fungi.com\/pages\/mushroom-benefits-at-a-glance\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>such as Turkey Tail and Lion\u2019s Mane<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">\u2014are considered particularly beneficial. If you\u2019re keen to branch out from the narrow range of mushrooms available in supermarkets, check out the <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@WildFoodUK1\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>wealth of video foraging guides from \u200b\u200bWild Food in the UK<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">However, <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mushroom#Toxic_mushrooms\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>Wikipedia states that<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">: \u201cMany mushroom species produce secondary metabolites that can be toxic, mind-altering, antibiotic, antiviral, or bioluminescent.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">In <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/uk.bookshop.org\/a\/12013\/9780141985138\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>How to Change Your Mind: The New Science of Psychedelics<\/u><\/span><\/em><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">, Michael Pollan explores the effects of psilocybin \u2013 a hallucinogenic compound produced by <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_psilocybin_mushroom_species\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>200+ species of fungi<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">. Scientific research suggests that psychedelics can help treat various maladies including depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">Since its publication in 2019, efforts to realise the potential of <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Psychedelic_therapy\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>psychedelic-assisted therapy<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"> have accelerated. Despite a <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/california-nixes-a-bill-to-decriminalize-plant-based-psychedelics\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>frustrated attempt to decriminalise plant-based psychedelics in California<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">, several other states have succeeded in recent years.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\">Venturing beyond therapeutic applications, Pollan also interviews <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Psychonautics\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"><u>psychonauts<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Arial, sans-serif;\"> and sympathisers pushing for wider access and challenging the stigmatisation of so-called \u201crecreational\u201d use. Given the extraordinary power of psychedelics, \u201crecreational\u201d does seem like a drastic understatement.
